A Web site to help SMEs counter the economic threat from China
Québec SMEs now have a source of information and strategic advice to help them counter the economic threat from China.
SECOR TAKTIK, a
subsidiary of
SECOR, Canada's
largest strategy consultancy firm, recently asked
multiple-media.com, a company specializing in communications and
Web technologies, to build
RiposteChine.com
(litterally "Responding to China"), an innovative corporate
blog-site.
RiposteChine.com targets manufacturing
companies, which are particularly vulnerable to the inroads
Chinese imports are making into the Canadian market, with
strategic information analyses and concrete examples, based on
over 25 case studies.
"The Chinese offensive is already launched,
explains Louis J Duhamel, the Secor-Taktik associate who is
responsible for
RiposteChine.com. The
result is that Quebec has already lost 100,000 to 150,000 jobs.
We should no longer fear on saying to what extent China
represents a danger to the economy of a country like ours.
Although current actions, such as tax credits on the purchase of
new machinery are useful, they will never be enough. The message
that we want to send is, 'Don't give up! You can differentiate
your products enough to remain - or become - competitive
enough'!"
The primary challenge, according to Duhamel, is
the information deficit, which prevents companies from realizing
the extent of the damage that is being done. This is why an
initiative like RiposteChine.com is important and why it can play
a key role through its innovative contents and the technologies
it is based upon. Both a blog and a Web site, it offers users an
opportunity to learn more about the issue of Chinese competition,
to read or to download comprehensive documentation on the
subject, and to comment the documents or the reactions of other
users.

The SECOR-TAKTIK initiative stems from a
large-scale research about China that it carried out in 2006. The
conclusions of another recent research will be disclosed in a
lunch-conference by Louis J. Duhamel on May 24. Duhamel will
focus on response strategies developed by companies from Quebec,
Canada and Europe.
